One of the least expensive ways for the separation of magnetic particles present in the cooling lubricant or in the process water in the mechanical and steel industries and in general in a water body is the use of magnetic separators. The presence of metal particles is separated with different magnetic forces in relation to the different polluting concentration.
Some magnetic particles can be easily separated with a separator that has a low-intensity magnetic field 40 – 60 mT (milliTesla). Paramagnetic (weakly magnetic) particles require a higher intensity magnetic field generally from 0.6 to 2 T (Tesla).
WMT magnetic separators are suitable for wet magnetic separation of chips or granular material. They are mainly of two types, with rotating discs or submerged tubes driven by a pair of chains.
Chips or grains captured by the magnetic elements of the separator are removed by a scraping blade and sent to the collection box.
The magnetic material used is Ferrite or Neodymium (NdFeB) depending on the applications required.
The choice of the type of separator depends on the flow rate of the fluid, the amount of chip or magnetic particles present in the water body and the grain size.
They can be installed in existing tanks or special ones in simple steel or carbon steel to increase their magnetic effect.
